Residents evacuate from their flooded town, north of Bangkok, on October 25, 2011. Around 320 people have died in flood-related incidents since late July according to the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation, as Thailand experiences the worst flooding in 50 years with damages running as high as $6 billion. I am so sorry. I have been following the stories, but your photos say so much more. I hope the government will make water management changes so this won't happen again.
How are you and your family doing amidst all the flooding?
I hope it is ok that I make a link on my site so others can see the photos.
Bangkok is a low land. It's quite normal to have this. There could be more later according to rising sea level. But this time I'm 90% believe that the flood is caused by the government's policy (water management at big dams) and 100% for mismanagement because we have 2 months warning but the government failed to react.
That is frustrating, because you have to rely on the government for future water management. I hope they are embarassed and will take more effective steps next time. Besides affecting the people there, bad water management will lead to less foreign investment in businesses. I hope that will motivate the government, too.
Funny that there is no mention in this column of flood relief being doled out as political patronage. There have been numerous reports, backed by photo and video evidence, of trucks delivering aid with banners saying it is a gift from Thaksin Shinawatra and other Puea Thai politicians, when in fact the aid comes from taxpayers and fellow Thais.Even FROC admits this has happened. Inappropriate politicking is going on on all sides during this crisis. Please be honest about it.
A great number of people were still smiling and looking very sweet. May this disaster be over as quickly as possible so that this wonderful and lovely people could resume their normal daily lives.
